Does my child need laser frenectomy?

We often recommend this when the frenulum is too tight and restricting the range of motion within the mouth. When a frenulum is restricted, it can cause tongue-tie or lip-tie, conditions that lead to digestive issues, difficulty breastfeeding, speech or airway difficulties, and dental spacing problems. The procedure can generally correct the issues associated with excess pressure on the frenulum.

How painful is laser frenectomy?

There is very little discomfort with the laser. There is almost no bleeding from the procedure. Lasers sterilize at touch and therefore have less risk of infection. Healing is very quick; a laser stimulates bio-regeneration and healing.

How long does it take for a laser frenectomy to heal?

A full recovery will take approximately four weeks. Laser surgery has a short recovery period because the laser cauterizes the wound as it cuts. In the first three days, a white patch will form over the area. Within the first week, the pain, bleeding, and soreness will go down.

How long is the procedure?

Addressing frenums is simple in children less than 9 months old. The procedure itself takes less than a minute for each frenectomy. Dr.Rojas uses a laser that cuts and seals the tissues resulting in very little bleeding.

Does laser frenectomy require anesthesia?

Laser frenectomy does not require anesthesia and there is minimal pain during the procedure. The process is usually quick; however, it can be painful, so often there is some use of anesthesia.
